Robots aren’t biological entities; they’re purposefully programmed to learn with specific goals in mind — goals often set by corporate interests. These machines are typically trained on vast datasets that predominantly originate from WEIRD (Western, Educated, Industrialized, Rich, and Democratic) countries. As a result, the ethics and cultural values they internalize reflect those societies, rather than universal principles. For instance, Western cultures tend to prioritize individualism, while Eastern cultures emphasize collectivism. When we discuss the theory of mind in the context of AI, the critical question becomes: whose theory of mind are we talking about?
